November 2009

Your November newsletter from Learning Network NZ

As I prepare to move house for the first time in 8 years, I came across a huge box of my teaching materials. I had a few misty moments as I looked through those handwritten worksheets of yesteryear and remembered the days when 'cut and paste' actually involved scissors and glue ... but it was with a happy heart that I biffed the lot and said a silent thank you for the wonders of electronic storage. I wonder how many of you have years of stuff stashed away, just in case ..... I reckon you should have a spring clearout and start 2010 afresh!

Talking of which, read on for what's hot for the new year ...

TWO THEMES ... ONE EXPERT
Whether you're a classroom teacher, leader or principal, the multi-talented Robin Fogarty has something for you. A world-leading curriculum, leadership and assessment expert, Robin is also the author of many bestselling educational resources. We are delighted to welcome her back in March 2010 to present two courses;

Coaching for Transfer (19 March):
The academic coach makes the difference in the learning journey of the teacher and his/her students. This workshop will arm you with a repertoire of instructional strategies and coaching techniques to help you be the force that moves the adult learner along the path to reflective practice and significant change. The day addresses three areas of the 'coaching for transfer' concept: defining the coaching role; developing a repertoire of strategies for academic coaches, and looking at transfer theory.

Differentiating Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment (20 March - Saturday - no reliever costs!):
The message received from Carol Tomlinson’s work on Differentiation is that educators need a wide repertoire of tools and strategies to effectively differentiate in their schools and classrooms. This workshop is just the learner-based, practical approach you need to make differentiation a core element of your lessons and curriculum. You will: Explore three types of learners; Differentiate a curriculum unit; Practice differentiating a lesson; Use three measures to differentiate assessments.

Click on the links above for more information or online bookings, or contact Maryanne for more assistance.

For both courses we need to receive registrations before Christmas please, in order to work with Robin's busy schedule and confirm numbers.
