Being an Effective Dean
presented by Jan Hill and Kay Hawk

22 February 2010
9.00am - 3.00pm
Learning Network NZ, Cnr Soljan & Universal Drive, Henderson, Auckland

This course is fully subscribed but please contact us to be placed on a wait list.

Member Price $160.00    Non-members $190.00
Multiple booking discount: $160.00 for 3 or more orders placed by the same school at the same time

Target Audience: secondary school deans

This course is primarily designed to induct and support Deans who are new to the role but would also be useful for more experienced Deans who are looking for a 'refresher' opportunity. Schools may also use the opportunity to send two or three of their Deans to review their Deaning programme - note the multiple booking discount.

Deans play a crucial role in supporting students through their time at school and in helping other teachers to guide and manage students. This makes the role of a Dean multi-faceted, complex and very demanding.

The course will cover:
  • Understanding the role - is it discipline, pastoral care, or both, or something else?
  • Reviewing school structures and organization to meet students' needs
  • Effective communication skills and strategies
  • Strategies for managing student behaviour
  • Working with colleagues
  • Appropriate parent/caregiver liaison
  • Managing the complex demands of a Dean's role

In the past, this course has been heavily oversubscribed.
You will need to book early to guarantee a place.
