The day will comprise three sessions.
The first session will cover the Teaching Target Model, the foundation for James’s new book,
. Identifying proven ways to increase student challenge, engagement and progress, this approach will help you:
Challenge and support students
Determine their readiness for learning
Monitor and improve progress by making them 'wobble'!
Develop students' resilience and capacity for learning.
In June 2010, James hosted and co-presented a series of conferences in Europe alongside Carol Dweck, Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and author of
). Building on this rare depth of insight into Prof Dweck’s work, James will show clearly in this second session:
Why IQ is being misused to a deeply detrimental effect in education
How our praise and reward systems in schools need revisiting so that we can better support, rather than discourage, learning
Why mindset is so crucial to the learning process
What we can do to re-educate ourselves, our students and their parents.
The final session of the day will identify some of the best classroom strategies for enhancing challenge and growth mindsets, including:
Preview and learning tests
The ASK Model
Strategies for creating cognitive conflict
Games that really enhance literacy and learning.
