STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
Times change. Fresh and exciting initiatives appear regularly. Yet one core issue will always be critical to everyday teaching. We need our students to be engaged. When they are intrinsically motivated and even enthused by their work, learning embeds more deeply.
This session on Engagement will be one of the most practical workshops you will ever attend. It will include many pragmatic ideas that focus on a participatory classroom environment; and on student intrinsic motivation. The specific strategies and processes will include:
- The psychology of student agency; what works; and what doesn’t
- The power of relationship in a classroom learning community
- The setting of targets / goals; how it works for most children
- The explicit introduction of on-task training – a simple 4-step framework for helping distracted students to remain on focus
- The development of solution-focused learning and Passion Projects that provide a stimulus for everyday learning
- The worth of your enthusiastic modelling for your own learning engagement
