Future-focused Education
With change occurring globally at an unprecedented rate, schools and communities are facing increased demands on them to prepare students for the future.

Within this workshop Mark Osborne will explore some of these changes, the shifting skillset that are increasingly being required of our young people, and what schools are doing to meet these challenges.

Future-focused education is about preparing young people for their future; not our past. With change occurring globally at an unprecedented rate, schools and communities are facing increased demands on them to prepare students for the future. As educators we don’t just need to be aware of the impact that trends like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation are having on the future, but also how to best prepare our young people in light of it.

This workshop will explore the changing capabilities required by our young people, but also approaches that schools are employing to develop these capabilities, including project-based learning, place-based learning, student agency and conceptual curricula.

Key questions to be explored:

  • What impact are emerging trends having on the career prospects of young people currently in the schooling system?

  • What are the key future-focused capabilities young people need to be developing?

  • Which approaches to teaching and learning will best prepare our young people for that future?
