“Literacy in English gives students access to the understanding, knowledge, and skills they need to participate fully in the social, cultural, political and economic life of New Zealand and the wider world.” (NZC p. 18) 

Third session:
Focuses on the "Speaking, Writing and Presenting Literacy Strand"
Aspects that maybe covered include:

  • Setting up and managing your writing programme

  • Practical handwriting, punctuation and spelling activities

  • Expressing ideas

  • Writing for an audience

  • Organising and sequencing texts

  • Monitoring and assessment

  • Reflecting on own work

  • Linking writing with thinking and other areas of the curriculum

As with all your sessions, there will be plenty of opportunities for sharing, questions and discussion with your peers and facilitators.ERO cites “regular opportunities to interact with other beginning teachers” as being one of the key factors identified by PCTs as helping their professional growth for effective teaching. 

Enroling for all sessions is strongly recommended so that PCTs can build a supportive network and benefit from the regular goal-setting and reflection aspects of the package.
