Description

Chic Foote is an educator of more than 35 years experience who has dedicated her career to making a difference to teaching and learning opportunities across all sectors of the education community. She is committed to the development of engaging and relevant curriculum for the future success of all learners as members of our global community.

Chic began her career as a teacher and later an assistant principal in New Zealand schools. She has been fortunate to have a wide range of opportunities to work in the education sector both nationally and internationally.

Her international career was initiated in the early 1990’s when she was invited to become a member of an advisory team working alongside teachers in Michigan schools. This led to Chic becoming a visiting instructor at Oakland University, MI. USA from 1997 -1999 where she was fortunate to work with teachers across schools and districts. During this time Chic and her family lived and worked in Michigan where they developed the foundations of a global network that has grown over time to include family, friends and a range of education colleagues who are leaders in their fields.

In the ensuing years Chic has enjoyed working with teachers and school systems, pre-service teacher education, and professional development projects within New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Middle East and Asia. This has included project coordination and leadership, teaching and supervising undergraduates, resource development, facilitating teacher leadership, and developing effective curriculum design. Over the past 15 years this range of experience has led to her becoming known for her skills in analyzing need and designing, coordinating and facilitating targeted professional learning opportunities.

Chic is widely experienced in the process of curriculum mapping and the backward design process known as Understanding by Design (UbD). Chic believes that these two processes are essential elements of effective curriculum design in order for today’s learning communities to truly prepare their students for the ever-changing future.

Chic is currently based in New Zealand where she is director and senior consultant at her company Helix Consulting. She is also a faculty member of Heidi Hayes Jacobs Curriculum 21 and Jay McTighe’s team of consultants at McTighe Associates. Chic is based in New Zealand and continues to develop her national and international consulting services.
